Overview of RCID:
Research Center for Immunodeficiencies (RCID) was established by efforts of Prof. Asghar Aghamohammadi and Prof. Nima Rezaei, in 2009. This center is located in the Pediatrics Center of Excellence, Children’s Medical Center Hospital in Tehran, Iran. RCID is only specific PID research center that particularly investigate about PID disorders in Iran. The mission of RCID is defined in four main domains including:
(a) To develop and disseminate high quality scientific knowledge in the field of PID
(b) To offer educational opportunities for medical students, research fellows, and PhD students
(c) To translate scientific knowledge in the field of PID into practical and functional strategies
(d) To bring excellence in clinical practice and research for PID nationally, regionally and internationally.
RCID had well progress in the field of PIDs during last decade, and as one of the frontiers of PIDs diagnosis and treatment in the Middle Eastern region, Iran has achieved much progress in the fields of both clinical and molecular immunology. In this regard, RCID has involved in some important findings in PID disorders such identifying three new gens (LRBA,CD27,CD70) in PIDand declaration of an important message about poliovirus in PID patients entitled “PID patients are a reservoir of poliovirus and a risk to polio eradication”. Results of these investigations have published in high impact journals. It is our hope that RCID can promote scientific activities in this field, not only with regard to research but also in education and care of affected patients. translate this context to farsi one.
