The report of the 2018 World PI Week in Iran

The Iranian IPOPI National Member Organization (NMO) and the Research Center for Immunodeficiencies (RCID) carried out different activities to commemorate the World PI Week (WPIW) for the eighth consecutive year on 21-22 April 2018 at the Children’s Medical Center Hospital, Tehran.

 

On 21 and 22 April, a scientific meeting “10th international Conferences for primary Immunodeficiency Disorders (ICID)” was organized in Children’s Medical Center Hospital, the referral center of PID in Iran for both children and adult patients (http://rcidcong.tums.ac.ir/). A large number of people participated in this meeting that was held by the Iranian NMO including all subspecialists of the country to increase awareness of general physicians and pediatricians about the principal manifestations of PID and the correct approach to those signs and symptoms.

 

On 21 April, a ceremony in appreciation of the PID patients has been taken place and a theater were performed at Children’s Medical Center Hospital, Tehran. TV artists and popular celebrities were invited to run a joyful show for PID children and their families.

The morning report (a medical training programme) of the Children’s Medical Center Hospital was dedicated to PIDs at 22 April 2018 and a lecture on several educational PID case was given for pediatricians, pediatric residents and medical students. Afterward, and at 23 April 2018, the third international PID spring school held by the contribution of Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN) and RCID with a presentation of keynote lectures by distinguished professors in immunology, amongst were Mirjam Van der Burg, Emmanuelle Jouangu, Reinhold E. Schmidt, Nima Rezaei and Asghar Aghamohammadi.

PI week organizers participated in several national TV and media interviews and informed the public about the prevalence of PIDs in Iran, warning signs of primary immunodeficiency and treatment of PID patients.
