Strategic Plan

Strategic Plan for Research Center for Immunodeficiencies Tehran, Iran, 20162021

Background

In 1997, some academic members of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and medical students from Student Scientific Research Center decided to focus on many areas of Primary Immunodeficiency (PID), including both basic and clinical aspects. As a result, in 1999 we established Iranian Primary Immunodeficiency Registry (IPIDR). After three years working, 440 PID patients were registered and the first report of IPIDR was published. During 1999-2004 informal group of working in PID was settled down in TUMS. Several research collaborations with national and international centers and lots of publications were part of activities in this period. On the other hand, diagnosis of PIDs was improved by developing molecular methods. In 2009 proposal for establishment of Research Centre for Immunodefiencies (RCID) was submitted to TUMS and were accepted by Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The RCID is located in the Pediatrics Center of Excellence, Children’s Medical Center Hospital in Tehran, Iran and is affiliated to TUMS. It is the first established immunodeficiency research center in Iran. The RCID is trying to improve health care services and train skilled researchers in the field of immunodeficiency.

Mission

The mission of RCID is defined in four main domains including:

(a) To develop and disseminate high quality scientific knowledge in the field of immunodeficiency

   (b) To offer educational opportunities for medical students, research fellows, and PhD students

(c) To translate scientific knowledge in the field of immunodeficiency into practical and functional strategies

(d) To bring excellence in clinical practice and research for primary immunodeficiency nationally, regionally and internationally

Vision

The vision of RCID for the coming 5 years is to be one of the premier research centers in the country and in the Middle East region, and to be among the top 100 research centers in the field of immunodeficiency worldwide.
